National Vision Board Day is the second Saturday of January. A vision board is a visual representation of your goals. Goals are 50% likelier to be accomplished if written down. Specific goals are likelier to be achieved. Goal-setting theory: “Researcher Edwin Locke found that individuals who set specific, difficult goals performed better than those who set general, easy goals.”
Currently, we are only a handful of days into the new year. Have you made any resolutions? What are your chances of keeping them? Let’s be honest, most of us forget about our resolutions, or just give up on them; no one knows about them, anyway, right?
If others know about a man’s hopes, goals and plans, the chances of his following through with them increases. Writing down and visualizing goals is a great way to increase your chances of succeeding. A great way to accomplish your goals for the new year is by creating a vision board.
How to Make a Vision Board
National Vision Board Day is the perfect time to share your creations with the world. Here’s how:
- First you will need to have a general sense of where you would like this year to lead you. These goals can be anything from eating healthier to spending more time with loved ones.
- After collecting both supplies and ideas you can begin creating your vision board. Your vision board doesn’t have to be complex or ornate, as long as it will help you remember your goals, long into the new year.
- When the creation of your board is complete, share some ideas with some close friends; perhaps a vision board creation party can be planned!
- Share your vision board online. By posting your visions for the future online, you not only will have a digitized version of your vision board, you will also have your entire Facebook audience listening, to give a sense of accountability. Make sure to update your status every now and then, just to keep your ideas fresh, and current. If you share a vision board online, make sure to tag @GoodGuySwag, as well as @NationalVisionBoardDay. Hashtag your posts with #VisionBoard, #NationalVisionBoardDay, and #DontGoAlone. Nominate a few friends to share their visions for 2017. They’ll be glad to be nominated for something other than an ice-water bucket or snow challenge!
The decisions are all up to you, but there is a community waiting at your fingertips. With support from others we can succeed. Make sure not to go alone.
